Source: Hôkû Zuttermeister CD "`Âina Kûpuna" - `Akahiakuleana was the mother of well noted Hawai`i island chief, Umialiloa. This mele tells of Liloa, a prosperous Hawa`i island ali`i who became entranced with the beauty of `Akahiakuleana, said to have been a maka`âinana (commoner). Couplings between these two social classes were shunned because the mana of the ali`i child would be diluted. Still, Liloa followed his desires and from their union, Umialiloa was conceived.
